Fiesta Flowers

Did you make tissue paper flowers when you were young? I’m not sure if I did or not. I seem to remember the accordion folding part, but nothing else. Maybe I did, but there have been “many moons” since I was young and I don’t remember!

I’ve wanted to make these for a long time and had a nice collection of tissue paper, so with the help of the Internet I found some good instructions and made a few. My main trouble was getting the right color combinations – as you can see in the picture. They are tedious and I found that after making just a few I needed to take a break and come back to this later. Plus, I found that I was spending way too much time playing around with these and was mindful of using my time wisely.

In addition to the construction part being time consuming, I have to admit that I spent some time chasing around getting more tissue paper as I didn’t have all the colors I needed. A local party supply business has the big packages of tissue paper and I had bought packages there, so it was my first stop. Their paper is a bit heavier and, while it is a good quality, that heaviness made it harder to fluff out the flowers.

The orange I wanted was a particularly elusive color for some reason, but it was found in Dollar Tree in a small quantity. I found that a lot of places that carried cards and gift wrap didn’t have any tissue paper. Hobby Lobby had some, but not in the colors I wanted.

I felt like I spent too much time on this project, but it wasn’t wasted as now I’m prepared for the next time I want to make flowers! And, it was fun!

  1. We all need a little fun time! It’s not time wasted if we enjoy it. I, like you, can’t remember if I made these tissue flowers before or not. Maybe! You could use some of these for July 4th decorations. Others, the colors combination is very nice. I like the pink and green one best.
