Dec-a-dent, oh my!

Decadent, when used in regard to food, typically refers to “something that is luxuriously self-indulgent, often rich, and lavish in taste presentation”.

That description definitely refers to this Tres Leches cake served at a recent luncheon I attended. While waiting for the meeting to start my table companions found ourselves quietly sampling this dessert. We tried to be very casual and slowly sneak in bites, but by the time our meals arrived we had obviously eaten the cake as an appetizer.

After the meal one lady picked up the piece of cake at an unoccupied place, used her clean coffee spoon to cut a slice and placed it on her cake plate. With no words spoken, we passed this piece of cake around the table, slicing off a portion and passing it on around the table.

After the meeting I saw people filling Styrofoam boxes with uneaten slices to take home. We have no shame about all of this.
