Did you ever sing a silly song about purple stew? It was a Girl Scout favorite and I can still see those precious little girls in my troop skipping around a campfire belting out the words.
Makin’ a purple stew, mmmmhhhhmmmm, mmmmmhhhmmmmm,
Makin’ a purple stoobie-doobie-oobie-doobie
Purple potatoes, and purple tomatoes and YOU!.
It starts with someone chosen to stand in the middle (in the “pot”) while the others skip around singing. When they get to “YOU” (which is shouted with emphasis) that person points to someone and they have to go into the middle with them. The song continues until one person is left outside the “pot”. It works best with a group of 10-12.
As I cleaned out my organics can with the garden hose dangling over the edge and broom in the soapy water, this long forgotten song popped into my mind. But I wasn’t makin’ a purple stew!
