Yes, good things do come to those who wait when they wait wisely and patiently. In this case, it was being able to wait patiently from December to July for a Christmas-in-July sale that I didn’t know for sure would happen. In truth, I had no choice. If this Fitz & Floyd Santa was going to come to me it had to be through a very very good sale.
It was early October when I spotted the three Santa’s in Dillard’s home department. There was already a lot of Christmas merchandise on display and more to come, lots to see and exclaim over, but it was the three Santa’s on a top shelf that immediately caught my eye. There was a blue one that didn’t really appeal to me, a green one, and the traditional red-robed Santa. It was the red one that I was drawn to, but the price. Oh my! Way too expensive for me.
I went home and checked the Fitz & Floyd website hoping for a better price. OH NO, it was twice the Dillard’s price! I checked other internet sources, but alas, they were all about the same.

During the holidays I visited Dillard’s several times, just looking around and checking for sales. Close to Christmas, it was the green one that I found myself admiring. The soft, untraditional green robe just seemed to be more peaceful and seasonal that the bright red. Those sales did not happen so the Santa did not come home with me to find its way into my decorations.
After Christmas it was several days until I was able to go to Dillard’s which didn’t bother me because I knew the after Christmas pandemonium would be over. By then Santa’s were all gone and I went home thinking that one just wasn’t meant to be mine – at least not then. I checked the internet again and found several that were still too pricey for me and played the wait and maybe they will go lower game. Ha ha. They disappeared from the websites.

However, I consoled myself that Christmas-in-July sales usually offer merchandise at good discounts. I just needed to wait patiently for July and see what happened. I was very matter of fact with myself about this, too.
In early July I checked the Fitz & FLoyd website and yes, the green Santa was on sale at a very deep discount. The red robed Santa was higher priced; perhaps the green robe that attracted me didn’t appeal to other shoppers and they wanted to sell the greens quickly. It didn’t matter, because the sale was sizzling! After a little consideration I placed my order and realized that they really must want to sell these because without announcement they gave me free shipping! Good deal!

It took several weeks for Santa to arrive in the big brown truck because he got delayed in Pasadena, CA. When he did arrive it was on the Monday of the final week of preparations for a large event that I have been totally immersed in preparing for since early June. Actually, preparations started in February. Anyway, being busy didn’t stop me from taking a break to open up the box and take out my much awaited treasure.
He is every bit as exquisite as I remembered and I know it was worth the wait for the price drop (and free shipping). He is 18.75 inches tall and I’m not sure where I will display him when the December comes, but for now he is sitting in the living room on top of the television cabinet regally watching over the room (remember the old “Santa’s watching you” phrase?)! I can’t pack him away just yet.

Good things come to those who wait wisely and patiently!

Congratulations! Santa is beautiful. I love the green robe with the leaf pattern on it. I know you will treasure it for a long time. Enjoy!
